CNR
CONSIGLIO NAZIONALE DELLE RICERCHE

The National Research Council (CNR) is Italy’s largest public research institution, founded on November 18, 1923. It operates under the Ministry of Research and focuses on multidisciplinary activities. CNR’s mission includes conducting research, fostering innovation and competitiveness in the national industrial system, promoting international collaboration, and providing technological solutions to public and private sector needs. The institution employs over 8,000 staff, with more than half being researchers and technologists. CNR also collaborates with universities, private firms, and research associates to advance scientific, technological, and social development.
In the IMPROVE project, CNR participates in WP2, focusing on extracting proteins from aquaculture by-products. They analyze the physical-chemical properties of the proteins and collaborate with NTUA for safety and quality assessments, as well as with VRLS to optimize extraction efficiency. Additionally, CNR works with ENEA, who extracts oil-enriched fractions from fish and aquaculture by-products, with CNR handling the subsequent protein extraction. The results will be shared with UOH to support the next phase of protein modification and functionalization.
